It pissed off a ton of fans. You know...the fans who kept the brand alive in the late 80s and the early nineties. You know...the fans who would watch the movies in the theaters multiple times. You know...the fans who could have spent a ton more money for Disney products but because the product sucked did not spend their money. Kathleen "the future is female" Kennedy and Jar Jar Abrams cratered the franchise. Of course George "I don't know how to write a love scene" Lucas ruined it a decade before.
