True. However a coin can last much longer in circulation. I could receive a 1964 penny today...oldest dollar bills that I see today are no more than 5-10 years old.Obviously the older coins are rarer as they end up in jars or are disfigured enough to not be used. Today, I received a 1976 dime, four times older than most bills.
