The idea that we might exist within a simulation has been growing in popularity. It can only be speculated whether or not the "programmer" of our simulation would have god-like powers, or is only responsible for basically planting a seed . I think I would align with the latter of these two options.

So, assuming it's the latter, Do you suppose that as our programmer watches our collective intelligence and technology progress, slowly at first but moving at an ever quicker rate of advancement, it becomes as concerned as we might of AI's ever quickening advancement? Are we to god what AI is to us?

Did you just recent read the 4chan story about humans 3d printing themselves outside of the simulation? Anyways no not at all. Something so powerful it could create this universe is so beyond us that comparing a human to a germ does not even come close to comparing humans to a god.

I haven't been to 4chan in years but that sounds hilarious.

I'm not even necessarily suggesting that we, as homo-sapiens, would someday be equal to or greater than god(s). Maybe we're a piece or a bit within a larger universe that, through sentient life spawned within it's galaxies, is slowly becoming self-aware. To god(s), homo-sapiens may be the equivalent of a neuron within the brain.

It is nice to think about but is mostly just the existential cry of the self aware being wanting there to be meaning to all this. Most likely life happened spontaneously and all of this is meaningless

ehh...I'm not as convinced. I'm not saying there's some bearded, Abrahamic god or anything similar but I think it's a mistake to dismiss any notion of intelligent or deliberate design. I tend to think that religion exists at the edge of scientific understanding and there is an enormous amount that we simply don't know or understand.

I hope not. He might pull the plug one day. Maybe he reset us already a few times. I don't think we live in a simulation though.

I think, in theory, they'd be facing the same ethical dilemmas as we would. Are they concerned enough to just turn it off? Or are they still curious how far it could go?

I'm not really convinced of the simulation theory either. I feel like one of it's arguments is basically "well, it can't be disproven so its probably true". That's not really enough for me, but I really do enjoy thought experiments.

Perhaps not a simulation but a guided evolution until otherworldly species deem us mature enough to join the universal ranks of the enlightened (Arthur Clarke, "Childhood's End")

That seems like one of the best case scenarios. I haven't read that but it looks good. I haven't read any sci-fi in awhile.
