I just found out that I may be furloughed soon for a month.
I'm a responsible guy, I've tucked money away in case of troubles, and I can survive without a months pay with little impact on my life. It's annoying, and I'm unhappy, but I'll live. I'm not swimming in money though, it'll come out to be about 10% of my savings. I'm also single with no dependents.
I'm told I can put in for unemployment, which includes that sweet $600 weekly Federal Coronavirus bump on top of it. The problem is that I don't feel comfortable collecting unemployment when I don't need it.
I've always been angered by the deadbeats that leech off of the system, collecting unemployment when they don't need it, when they're able bodied and can work. I want to just say no and not file, but there's a part of me that wants to take it anyway. I can work, I want to work, but I'm being told I cant, it's not my choice.
What do y'all think? What would you do? Has anyone else been in this situation yet?

Take the money now. Save it. When you go over some comfortable emergency fund, give it to a good cause.
The Government had no problem stealing your money at gun point. Take what you can.
Not taking it is seen as evidence of criminal.activity. Cops are like that.
Money is power. Don't give it up; use it.

You don't mention where you live, so that $600 could be extra in the emergency fund/savings account depending on your monthly budget. In parts of the USA, that $600 will go really far.
I think the $600 is a trap. The people that got used to it are going to end up going back to work and not having that $600 and the demand for increased minimum wage will be more and louder than before. $600 a week is an extra $15 an hour for a 40 hour week.
