In the last week or so I have started seeing frequent reposts. Every day it seems like I see a few posts in /all/new which I saw the day before. Did we get an influx of reddit karma whores?

From what I've been noticing it's not reposts, but people posting about the same thing but from different sources.

people posting about the same thing but from different sources.

I was going to say the same thing. I think it's also a function of the site's growth. More people = more content = more overlap.

I was going to say the same thing, only worded slightly differently.

I was going to also say the same thing as you but from a different source and another slightly different angle.

This is why I don't have a lot of posts. If I look, someone may have already posted and if it has I just comment there. If I do post something it is because I am really confident that it is original.

Dick in ass

Plot twist: Ass in dick.

I have seen this as well and have even found myself guilty of it after not seeing something the day before on a few occasions. This is a measurement of people just talking past each other and describes the narcissistic bubble we each live in perfectly. Basically, we're all out here "telling" and are too busy doing that to notice that to actually "listen" more. In other words, it's an indication of how people use this site to broadcast rather than receive or discuss.

Also note that you have multiple sources (which really aren't multiple sources, but rebroadcasting of the same datapoints) flooding the zone and this is why the algorithm here doesn't detect the reposts given that the web addresses of them are different.

If we were living in a society where people had more virtue (and I'm not trying to lecture anyone, as I know I have the problem myself and fight it daily) we'd see an instance or two and a lot of good comments and discussion about things rather than a bunch of postings with mostly zero comments.
