There's no hype, hon. Soapbox Banhammer (SBBH) started out as a Reddit community of trolls. They like to control narratives and stir drama for a feeling of power, attention, and probably as a job some are paid for.

There's an inner circle of members that are probably paid and focus on controlling online conversation. They like to use people with a lot time to play around and cause trouble. They're not always cohesive, and some drama has come up about disagreements and betrayals, but I'm unsure if those divisions are real or manufacturing.

Voat was partly ruined by them as Putt decided to go along with them. Some members are on Poal, but the admins are active, measures are in place, and the userbase won't be manipulated so easily.
