Let's assume two mobile phone batteries that have the same physical size, (edit: same price too), but different properties: ### ***Battery 1*** * 4000 mAh * 25 Watts maximum charging speed under constant conditions. * Usable up to 500 charging cycles. ### ***Battery 2*** * 3000 mAh * 16 Watts maximum charging speed under same conditions. * Useable up to 50000 charging cycles. * Weighs 150% as much as *Battery 1*.   • Useable up to 50000 charging cycles.
  • Weighs 150% as much as Battery 1.

If battery 1 had been 1000 charging cycles I probably would've gone with that.

Yeah, for user-replaceable batteries, battery 1 is a considerable choice.

My assumption was non-replaceable because even mid-range Android phones are going that way.

But I usually buy a new phone every 2-3 years and charge once a day.

Depends on usage but given the information you gave I'd use option 2 for longevity. Unless you need the first for the 25 watts.

Edit: unlike I don't coonsume new phones every year. If you upgrade every year the first should be ok

I just don't like protective cases. I hold onto my phones for as long as they will last without me breaking them, which tends to be about 2 or 3 years

50000 charging cycles? That makes it kind of a no brainer on longevity.

I would obviously choose battery 2 on a phone with non-replaceable battery, and on powerbanks (edit: with the same principle but scaled to a larger size. Powerbanks are usually much larger.).

With replaceable battery, I wouldn't care that much.

I mean wouldn't you? Think about it long term replacing it is going to be expensive.

I'd still probably choose Battery 2.

For rich people however, the monetary aspect shouldn't matter much.

Also, if I was fed up with replacement at some point (using Battery 1), I would purchase a Battery 2.

If one has money in abundance, one could use Battery 2 most of the times, but have a fresh (non-aged) Battery 1 for occasions such as on trips when one would need that extra capacity and charging speed for photography and 2160p@60fps (or now 3240p and 4320p) filming.
