I have severe arthritis in my hands and shoulders. I was prescribed medical marijuana for pain management. it worked incredibly well for a year. as an independent contractor I had no problems. recently, I got an offer for an excellent job that pays very well. I explained the situation to my employer. for insurance reasons we held off on starting work until I was able to pass a drug test. I have abstained from my prescribed drug and have just muscled through the pain for a month an a half, yet I still cannot pass a drug test. this is madness. I know I will eventually pass, but this means that I can no longer use a medicine that has improved my quality of life. I guess i'll just go in and get a prescription for oxycontin. i'm sure that will make everything better.

I have been completely honest with my employer. I really have nothing to hide. I was prescribed medication by a doctor. he understands, and is frustrated but he knows the importance of the paper trail. he also knows I'll be an asset to his company so he's being patient with me. everyone involved is frustrated with these insane rules, but the system is broken. I find it baffling that such a destructive substance as oxycontin is no problem at all. I know the solution. I have to muscle through the pain. its just the way it goes.

There are no exceptions for medical marijuana?

I think the problem is lack of information. my employer very much wants to hire me. I very much want to work for him. but there is no concrete path forward, except for me to completely abstain. as employment is a requirement for survival, I really don't see any other alternative.

That's quite sad. I'm sorry to hear that.
