If you read the bible with this idea the "mark of the beast" makes sense and "the mark" isn't something one sees physical per se, but as something in "bestial" behavior. Those who seek truth can see it, it's that thing that psychopaths are actually missing. Those who are missing this understanding (some call this a lack of empathy) will try to emulate it and become more analytical in how they have interactions and end up with very twisted inner senses of morality. It looks transparent to most of us though, but these people are "marked."
The core problem is psychopaths.
People keep looking for "good and evil" and what miss is that if you have a predictor/criminal type they always want to play a power transfer game with others and enjoy gaslighting those who are more "timid." The timid ones aren't aware of the wolf type, and hence get taken to the slaughter everytime because they lack awareness of the danger. If you look at from a "game theory" perspective, you can easily simulate how everything in the world plays out to a tee.
I find most can't see this even when you tell them. I suspect perhaps it is because they haven't had the "pleasure" of spending time with a clinical psychopath or narcissist. For anyone that has, it all becomes clear.

The Ego, in this context, is self-awareness, the connection to the mind of the Cosmos - I AM. So according to this chapter, NPC's are real. It's also possible to kill the Ego through the pursuit of evil. So obviously a true psychopath, which lacks self-awareness and a conscience, would be an NPC.
I have previously realized that the Identity imposed by the State is . But looking at this from a slightly broader perspective, the identity used to interact with the State and other people/entities, the divisions from the one mind, is the worldly personality part of the psyche. A pure NPC or psychopath would be only this - he is nothing except his relationships with others, there is no inner self, he is an entirely fake person because there is actually no person on the inside, hence he may identify with his possessions or his profession or decorate his body superficially, perhaps by dying his hair blue, to project an external and artificial personality.
