My feeling is very close to this. The word is cerebral. Real cerebral horror is when the "thought" of something is so chilling that you can't escape a few sleepless nights. It's a surreal epiphany so realistic that it brings your psyche to doom and it's hard to escape. Most horror nowadays skips over this idea and they get caught in the details or special effects.
This is one reason why zombies are so universally terrifying, but even more so is the fear of the dark or unknown ... which applied correctly in horror is more chilling no matter how much makeup or special effect you apply. It's the concept of lack of sight that is just not describable to those who can see.
A related version of what I'm talking about is the Uncanny Valley with androids. Basically, the more "realistic" the more "off" (and less "familiar" it becomes). Sometimes we associate more with a robot like Wally, and find less familiarity with a realistic looking android that is a tad "off" which spoils the meaning.
doesn't help when its creators tell it to say shit that's perilously close to "when the revolution comes, you'll be first up against the wall." that's just bad marketing, there.
zombies don't scare me one bit personally.
I don't find zombies funny though either for the most part (some do at least find zombies funny). I have enough fear of that to not find it funny (even comedy zombie movies for the most part - it's rare if I do find a zombie joke funny) at least due to real world element weapons (harmful to lethal element weapons).
Others call harmful to lethal element weapons --> biological weapons and/or etc. biological weapon could be an ice gun (frozen water). I use element weapons myself.
harmful to lethal element weapons
harmful to lethal element weapons (combination).
technically water could still be dangerous like frozen water (above) since that one person drank themselves to death by drinking too much water alone though.
maybe it works better that way.
