How long should the period to trigger an X post warning be when submitting a post that has already been recently posted? (ie. "This link has already been posted in /s/[subname], do you want to make it an x-post or a single post?") The advantage with making it an xpost is that people can see previous discussions regarding that post

Such a feature is pointless if it doesn't activate right away. Otherwise you will still have a bunch of unlinked duplicates posted shortly after each other.

I would make it on all the time. I don't see a link comment hurting anyone. I think it is good to do things that limit noise online.

But if you make it configurable I would have it as the default setting.

Just my 2 cents; it's not like either way will make or break the site since one or two links are generally voted to the top and not the others.

I intentionally cross-post items on occasion, but I try to remember to annotate the title.
If you're going to implement something like that, why not make it a warning like, "Are you sure you want to post this...?"
