If person X's ideas aren't mainstream, is X more likely to lie about his opinions?

I'd say yes, due to fear of shaming/persecution/exile/etc.

IF true, should this problem be corrected? Should people with "extreme" opinions feel more comfortable voicing these opinions?

We also killed a lot of human beings to get to where we are. If we as a group are willing to kill one another stupid animals are given little consideration. As we can verify through observation and history. it could be 60,000,000,000,000 a day and it wouldn't matter as they lost the evolutionary competition. No one is giving this up because you selfishly believe your emotions are so important that others should keep you safe from the cold realities of life. Kill to survive.
