Evil is when a person or group of people bring harm to another person or group of people in violation of the two rules of civilization:

  1. Don't mess with other people.
  2. Don't mess with other people's stuff.

That's a silly way to state it, but everyone can instinctively recognize the correctness of the two rules. Civilization is a natural consequence from a societal recognition of property. Correctly defined, property is your life and all non-procreative derivatives of your life. Hence the two rules stated above. Took me decades to figure it out, but do feel free to use the two rules of civilization in conversation as you see fit.

Some might argue that the laws on the books often say otherwise, But laws are not about civilization, they are about controlling people. Laws always -ALWAYS - violate the two rules of civilization. Hence: All laws are evil.

Repeat: all laws are evil. Think about what laws are for. At the root level, there are only two laws:

  1. You MUST do something you do not want to do.
  2. You are FORBIDDEN from doing something that you do want to do.

From this we can conclude that all laws exist to make people unhappy and to thwart us in our free pursuit of happiness. The system that operates in such a fashion is itself evil. Purely evil. A better social structure is possible, but we won't be seeing it any time soon.
