Evil is when a person or group of people bring harm to another person or group of people in violation of the two rules of civilization:

  1. Don't mess with other people.
  2. Don't mess with other people's stuff.

That's a silly way to state it, but everyone can instinctively recognize the correctness of the two rules. Civilization is a natural consequence from a societal recognition of property. Correctly defined, property is your life and all non-procreative derivatives of your life. Hence the two rules stated above. Took me decades to figure it out, but do feel free to use the two rules of civilization in conversation as you see fit.

Some might argue that the laws on the books often say otherwise, But laws are not about civilization, they are about controlling people. Laws always -ALWAYS - violate the two rules of civilization. Hence: All laws are evil.

Repeat: all laws are evil. Think about what laws are for. At the root level, there are only two laws:

  1. You MUST do something you do not want to do.
  2. You are FORBIDDEN from doing something that you do want to do.

From this we can conclude that all laws exist to make people unhappy and to thwart us in our free pursuit of happiness. The system that operates in such a fashion is itself evil. Purely evil. A better social structure is possible, but we won't be seeing it any time soon.

Natural evil is any thing which produces pain, distress, loss or calamity, or which in any way disturbs the peace, impairs the happiness, or destroys the perfection of natural beings.

Moral evil is any deviation of a moral agent from the rules of conduct prescribed to him by God, or by legitimate human authority; or it is any violation of the plain principles of justice and rectitude.

There are also evils called civil, which affect injuriously the peace or prosperity of a city or state; and political evils, which injure a nation, in its public capacity.

All wickedness, all crimes, all violations of law and right are moral evils. Diseases are natural evils, but they often proceed from moral evils.

This is far too open ended of a thing to describe. The best I can recon is that the concept of Evil is a the opposite side of the Hegelian variable to be measured against Good. Given this, it may be easier to define Good first.

Good (adjective) = Having the qualities that are desirable or distinguishing in a particular thing.

So, evil is that which impedes having the qualities that are desirable or distinguishing in a particular thing.

I'll go one step further, but you'll have to confirm if it's what you mean. Define the particular thing as virtue.

Evil: that which impedes virtue.

Note that I mean virtue as something that is what makes us tune into reality and nature. While the learned elders subvert with gold, and say that one who rules with morality (i.e. virtue) is a bad ruler. Note that gold has no value once all abstractions of what gold provides, i.e. when we're aware or in a state of pure survival.
