To quote one of my best friends who is no longer with us: "I don't trust creatures without shoulders."
nope a lot of people here aint scared. they even keep poisonous snakes in some churched and during service you hold the snakes. is like a test cause if heart is pure will not harm you
The only snakes I have near me that would be a concern are copperheads. I've never had a problem with them. As long as you are careful near places they like to hide and don't surprise them, they aren't an issue.
The only animals I'm scared of are ticks and bed bugs. Bed bugs because if you get them they can be expensive to get rid of, and ticks because I camp and hike a lot. I have a healthy fear of getting lime disease.
The only encounter I've had with a snake was at a Boy Scouts Jamboree. I'd gone to get sodas for the guys and took a short cut through a field of high grass and I was deep in it when I felt a snake wrap itself around my leg and start to slither up. I dropped all those cans of Pepsi and ran like Satan was at my tail. Everyone gave me shit when I came back empty handed.
I am curious about snakes though, I'd be alright with handling a non venomous one, wish I knew someone that had one.
I live in rattler country though and work at a hospital. Snake anti-venom shortages are real, I know exactly where to go if I get bit, and I'm not calling 911 and waiting for EMS.
Once, while with a FWB/fling of mine we rode motorcycles up to the mountains. She had a GSXR-1000, no joke.
Anyways, we decided to go to this historic stonehouse everyone likes.
Upon leaving, I stepped over a rock that had a large crevice underneath. The rattle I heard, it wasnt so much flight or fight fear nut numb shock at an unexpected encounter. I've seen them from a distance a few times, and just know not to harrass or threaten them.
But, that time was quite a surprise.
My brother came home one day to find one under his kitchen table, dad reflexes kicked in x100 and he yanked his kids out of the house before they knew what happened. He was gonna go in and shoot it, but his wife bitched about the tile getting fucked up, he thought it would make a good conversation piece. He lost.
Great story.
I once had a beautiful corn snake. I think he is still alive with a relative, he is like the larry king of a snakes. Incredibly docile, he loved to escape though. His hiding spot was inside the toilet tank.
No, they don't bother me. I try to give them their space if I encounter them, because if I give them space I'm less likely to get bit. The tricky part is when you find a shed skin someplace you wouldn't think they would be. Like the outside closet with the Christmas decorations...good thing it has been really cold here, that should slow them down some and maybe even put them to sleep.
Task one for January - get better bins to ensure the critters stay out of the decorations.
I'm not "scared" of them per say, but I do fear many of them at least and kind of do get freaked out or scared a bit (some fear or being scared somewhat I always figured was a great thing).
cognitive ability
some fear or being scared I figure helps me to stay situationally aware and within the realm of spatial reasoning and how to move in a physical environment to get away from any snake. Help me to perceive said environment in a situation where I did encounter something like a dangerous snake. Figure at least being aware or sentient to a situation to as well.
I'm too tired to put this into better words, but for now. kind of scrambled my sentences a bit and just kind of wrote it out without really thinking about it and how it works together.
I had a snake sitting on the deck steps and it was on the 2nd or 3rd step up on the left side which I was about to walk past. I was distracted paying attention to the mower and such and I looked up a bit to see the snake right on the left side of the deck step which would of been a foot or so next to me had I walked past trying to get as close to the deck itself while mowing.
The snake then jumped at me latching onto my chest. I quickly pulled out my .50 cal sniper rifle or both of them or my arms I should say. I had to fight the snake and it kept trying to take me down. Eventually it did take me down and I knew it was too late at that point. It started dragging me into the back swamp. It was fine though as I really had nothing else to do that day.
It was a helpless gardener and it did kind of get me (.5-1 second) since I was about 3 feet or so away and I would of passed it by about a foot since it was on the left side of the deck steps. I just kept mowing and walked right past it and didn't worry that much about it other than glancing at it to make sure it wasn't going to bite me or anything. I would of been fine though and it didn't really phase me.
This is what I live with. Each drawer contains a different one.

Snakes are not jews.
I don't have an intense visceral fear of them, but it's not like I'd be OK with letting some vipers live in my back yard.
Yeah, I mean logic applies. But I've encountered Diamondbacks out hiking, and just leave them be. They aren't aggressive.
I find Diamondbacks attractive...I have some deep issues I haven't sorted out yet.
Snakes are my favorite animal. A shame they are the strongest symbolism in fuck up shit like the occult and stuff.
I am not afraid of them unless it is a surprise. Seeing one at my feet all of a sudden makes me freeze for a moment.
There was a snake following me up the mountain near the end of my mystical experience.
