I am retired and I prefer the term 'financially independent.' That may not mean much to you, but you can dox me and verify my ID. It means I don't even fear reprisals from the US government, or any government. I'm not outrageously wealthy (by big boy standards), but I have enough to leave the country and enough assets outside the US to be able to do so with ease. On top of that, I am Micmac. I have a clean Canadian passport, even though I'm a natural born US citizen. So, not even your government scares me. I don't do anything too terrible and your government leaves me alone because I pay a goodly amount in taxes. I think it's fair. I don't even mind my taxes and would happily pay more - except I mind how they are spent. I don't mind paying. I mind how they waste it. Not even your law enforcement officers scare me. Trust me, it's a pretty awesome place to be.
