I mean it already is here in Israel
Would making it illegal have any impact on its availability?
Not at all, we should remember the example set by prohibition. Instead of freely available safe alcohol, you could get the stuff that has a chance of making you blind. Do you want your pornography to blind you?
Or having to stream porn from gangsters whose turf wars take a heavy toll in collateral damage.
Also, think of the taxes not collected when porn business become illegitimate.
In this case, they'd probably be naked and have their fluffers with them.
It was not illegal to possess liquor, only to sell it. Plenty of people had stashes that were legal to consume at home.
Much like that pile of your Dad's vintage playboys that will be worth a lot on the black market. Start filling usb drives now! Some people have computer folders that will fund their retirements.
Only as long as they're those fancy x-ray glasses you could get from the back of comic books.
I'm having way too much fun with this for all the serious answers.
Prohibition is a great example. There's no way to legislate human behavior. You have to consider that at all times when passing laws.
Good point. For the sake of the argument let's say making porn illegal also implies the anti-porn enforcement has some teeth. I think if it really mattered to the powers that be, porn could be made much less available. I'm sure bootlegs would be out there, but would be much less likely to end up in the hands of, for example, an 8-year-old.
Edit: Definitely streaming porn online could come to an end. Torrents, probably not.
Anti-gun legislation has plenty of teeth and it is completely ineffective in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, etc.
I would argue regulating web content is a lot different than regulating guns and booze (another failed ban which is why I mention it).
To flip it around: are you opposed a ban on, say, anti-Israel videos? Or would that not really matter because you can't legislate behavior?
I should have led with this:
Yes, making porn illegal would make it less available. As evidence of this, illegal pornography, such as porn depicting minors, is much less available than regular porn as a result of its illegality.
If your goal is making porn less available (and not completely unavailable) I'd say you'd have a better shot at it.
Israel has the right idea, highly regulated and inaccessible for children.
Told bad they will never propose that as politicians in goyim countries.
Not if all involved knowingly and willingly produce it.
