Functionally I don't see the difference. I guess I'd prefer the illusion of freedom to not having it at all. Maybe I'm wrong. Given the choice I'd prefer to be neither.
You said it, a resource has the illusion of freedom, for now. A few more basic rights and the state can't just sick the cops on you and beat/murder you without a pretext of a reason. The post earlier about billionaires angry about the 56 billion in productivity lost to ONE mental health day a year taken got me thinking of this
Edit: one mental health day a month each year.
