I've thought about doing this. Building a web crawler to run on rasperry pis which will do the web crawling. Database and classify what was found.Wouldn't be as quickly updated as google but would be useful for searching and finding interesting web content. Google search is absoluite shit these days.

Well, AFAIK the search engines are the yellow page. In Brazil, we have lots of small search engines with focus on local business, but they're just a bunch of addresses, phone numbers and URLs catalogued by area of business. We have product search engines that compare prices, but they charge the shops, so they only show products from the ones that paid. It's all about money.

Nothing wrong with the original Google algorithm of counting links and links from high value sites.

Just go back to that without the manipulation.

Maybe give it a "right wing"/truth bias by favoring infogalactic over wiki.

Don't know how much better it would be, but in addition to regular scrapping, you could webscrape google results, and then run the algorithm to find the original ordering before manipulation.
