I use a thin wool hat. It's good for most cold weather. If it gets super cold I use a buff as a head band for extra insulation.

It really makes a difference, a hat is almost a tool. I'm not wearing a hat designed to shield me from the sun when I really need a balaclava or variant to keep me warm.

Of course they can be fashion as well.

I go for the cheap-ass acrylic fitted ball caps. Add your own patch to it and you've got a hat that nobody else has, for a whole $15.

I've been most comfortable in fishing hats. I use them to keep my skin from burning when I'm under the hot sun all day.

Boonie cover. Keeps the rain off my glasses and from going down my back. I'll have to get a new one soon, the one I usually wear is starting to show its age.
