The man is a very talented actor, and though I don't forgive his terrible political opinions, I do recognize that he is steeped in a culture whose politics he has unfortunately internalized. Moreover, as success in the industry requires the right people to approve of you, one dare not offend the wrong studio executive with an unapproved attitude or lack appropriate outrage at the popular targets.
Back in 2007 when his angry voicemail to his daughter was released, the same people who he ingratiates himself politically with now, were calling him an "angry narcissist" and "abusive father". Knowing how some women in a separation use their children as weapons against the father, I can only hear the frustration in his voice as he makes one last desperate effort to reestablish boundaries with a wayward daughter that is helping mom turn the screws.

As for credit to his ability as an actor, the most well-known is the scene in Glengarry Glen Ross.
