So where an animal evolved determines what kind of sight it has.
Land animals such as dogs, cows, or deer will be "colorblind" with very limited visible light fields and poor sight overall. They tend to rely heavily on other senses (a deer usually knows your there because of smell not sight).
Animals that developed to fly, live at light penetrating water levels, or in trees like birds, fish, cats will have both decent ranged colored sight and better vision overall.
Another cool fact to is despite those animals having better individual senses, humans have the best over all senses. (a dogs smell is amazing but there sense of touch and sight is equally as bad)
I really dont believe all that. I work with deer daily and if a cat walks by far away they are all staring at it. And my dog watches birds in the sky and cows way far away. I believe what I see everyday. And believe me, deer dont have poor sight.
I've snuck up on plenty of deer by being down wind and moving really slow. They'll take notice of you hit a leaf (hearing is amazing) and look in the general direction but if you freeze you'll see them struggle to to see you, bobbing their heads back and forth. After a few minutes they'll go back to grazing and you can move again. If they're really suspicious you'll stamp and snort to try and get you to move before going back to there business. I've gotten withing 10 feet of families of deer on multiple occasions.
Don't take my word though next time you run into some deer try yourself and see.
it is their hearing you have to watch for. They can hear a friggin pin drop... and pooof they off
or they get use to "human" traffic.... like they know the trail in the woods people are walking on it. you take one step off, they are off running for their life
i so hate deer, you can get them to trust people tho. There is a deer park a few hours away where you can hand feed them and pet them.
Hey you said you worked with deer. you ever have a problem with CWD? minnesota is getting fucked over hard by it (like every fucking year)
some counties have salt lick bans and such. you cant bait (hunting) here but you can attract them to an area. Which is what DNR are trying to avoid so it doesnt spread
I work with deer everyday dude, Granted they are in pens, but like I said, they see shit far away and will all be looking at it. That leads me to believe they have good eyesight. Regardless. They also recognize different equipment.
deer are just fucking stupid and not made to hunt, instincts are different
I know, they are stupider than cows, but we are talking about what they see.
