With artists who lean away from realism, the meaning is often literally just the feeling provided when looking at/interacting with the artwork. This piece is a great demonstration of being the obstacle that will become the path, and having to go through it to reach that goal. Focus on three elements: how the spire is in the way, holding back; the moon at the end; and the literal need to demonstrate the turbulent path to reach it. Ultimately it's an extremely sad dance.

It is worth well over 100 million dollars today as is most of his work, yet he lived in squalor and eventually ended his life because he deemed himself a failure.
