Basilosaurus meaning "king lizard", is a genus of large, predatory, prehistoric whale from the late Eocene, approximately 41.3 to 33.9 million years ago (mya). Wadi Al-Hitan (Arabic: "Whales Valley") is a paleontological site in the Al Fayyum Governorate of Egypt, some 150 km southwest of Cairo.
