Anectdotally related, but my wife is Pacific Islander, and we've been to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, etc.. and the locals have never really been able to tell she's not from the area... she looks exactly like them. I read a book in the 80's, called "Voyage of Kon Tiki" about a man trying to prove immigration from S. America to the Pacific Region was possible on a reed raft.. he proved it was possible.
