I'm more concerned about the Greek and Latin writings that were lost from the ancient world. Read about Varro sometime. He was considered the greatest writer of his age, and we have only one work of his, except a few fragments quoted by other writers. Some of the greatest philosophers of Greece are known only from remarks about them by other, lesser philosophers. It's amazing that so much of this classical work has come down to us, but there was so much more that we have lost, probably forever.
