The 5 pointed star creatures from Mountains of Madness.

The Old Ones (pic8.co)

The ones in the above fossil would be babies. From the Lovecraft story we know these creatures are capable of practally infinite hybernation.

Someone should write a short story about these little monsters waking up.

Someone should write a short story about these little monsters waking up.

Give me something more to go on than just a picture and location. I'll research the location a little.

What are these creatures? What are they capable of when awake? Is this some larval form of something bigger, later in life cycle? Or should I leave that to the reader's imagination?

A lot of Lovecraft's monsters operate or exert influence on humans through dreams. These little fuckers... sure look like they could latch onto a skull, don't they?

"I awoke with a start, cold sweat drenching my body and bedsheets. I buried my face in my hands, trying to reason with myself- that could not have been real. I stand and move to light a taper in the early morning gloom, and as I slick my long hair back from my wear eyes, a sensation of some slimy, oily residue came away upon my hand."
