Most the stone used in the pyramids is pretty soft. The hard granite, used for burial chamber walls and some of the exterior casing, would have posed a more difficult problem. It doesn't exclude the possibility there were other more specialized tools used for harder stone. There are theories regarding the harder stone as well tho, and they've found evidence of what they believe would have been used like a giant table saw and once incorporated huge metal (table saw like circular metal blades) taking advantage of the centrifugal force generated by the blades size once it got going.
