I didn't know there was more than one Laodicea. I only knew of the church mentioned in Revelation, found in modern day Turkey.
Laodicea is the ancient name of several Western Asia cities, mostly founded or rebuilt in the 3rd century BC by rulers of the Seleucid dynasty. They are named after Laodice, the mother of Seleucus I Nicator, or after Laodice, the niece or daughter of Antiochus I Soter and Antiochus II Theos's wife.
The most important of the cities is the one you mentioned, Laodicea ad Lyceum, found near modern Denizli, Turkey. Laodicea ad Mare, located near modern Latakia in Syria, was a major seaport.
