Being able to jump into an old project without needing to spend a day and a half researching the info needed to pick it back up, trying to figure out what you were doing when you left off, wondering just what the hell you were thinking when you decided to do it THAT way, then restarting anyway because it'd be easier to just start from scratch rather than fixing the shitheap of a project.

For electronics projects or really anything I find it helpful to write down notes on paper. Writing with a pen/pencil v.s. typing helps me remember WtF I was doing and my thought process when I come back to it. Something about scrawling out the letters in sequence that makes it stick in my brain.

I also have a ton of plastic storage cases that I label for what project it is and have small cases for small parts to go inside. Keeps you organized because workspaces can get BLOWN OUT real quick. Also label makers are the best ever.

Yeah, my problem is I'll start a project, and won't take notes because I figure it'll be a short one. The life always happens, and it gets shelved for a few months.

Notes are key for everything in life. Once I got in the habit of keeping a notebook and pen in a pocket at all time everything in life got easier to remember. I also get sidetracked a bit so I Have trained myself to look at the current page to get back on track.

I'm already questioning my methods. I spoke too soon.

Don't do that, just get it done, then come let us know how you could have done it better, we all need to learn from our experiences. No other way to do it.
