In the early 2010, it used to be necessary to download an app for many things that websites can do today, thanks to HTML5 and sophisticated JavaScript.

Many social media platforms also have fully functional websites.

Obviously, an app (software) can be far more functional than a website (e.g. offline data caching, post queue, more access to device feature), which has alot of practical benefits.

But there are also some black sheep (e.g. the Reddit Spyware app).

Are websites still limited on hardware access? I know it's generally a good thing. But I use some 'web apps' (chrome apps) for configuring my race drones, and it would be nice to have a site rather than an app to update my configs.

Websites don't have nearly as much access to hardware as an app.

Android has a vibration API, but for data storage, websites can only use cookies and local caching and downloading/uploading for exporting and importing.
