I didn't realize how much I'd been compensating for it wearing out; easing off the line, upping the rpms ever so slightly to get into gear once at speed. After 180,000 miles, mostly in the city, it finally gave up all together last week. This week it has been an absolute pleasure to drive again.

Oh. I thought you meant a clutch like one of those teeny purses chicks carry for no apparent reason.

Grats! Did the pressure plate need resurfacing? I've been putting off putting a new clutch in my old Hillman.

I've never been able to pull off the handbag look.

Not being too mechanically inclined, I'm under the impression that they replaced the entire assembly &, because I have the stupid habit of trying to get just a few more miles out of it, all the mounts as they were destroyed by the vibration & out right shaking caused by the worn out unit.

Oh wow, well that sucks.

My old clutch just plain slips, no real shudder. I just don't trounce the gas and it's fine, not like it has all that much power anyway. And I never drive that car anymore anyhow because it's just too old and cool and rare to risk on LA streets.

Actually, that makes sense.

She still makes me pay for everything, though. Somehow I don't mind as much when she wears that little dress, though.

I thought a clutch was a group of eggs?

In that context I thought it referred to the newly hatched birds or reptiles.

It looks like both are right (merriam-webster.com) though I guess technically I'm referring to a brood.

If it were an Apple iCar, it would be trash now.

It's no classic that I can just pop the hood & tinker with whatever comes to hand but it's not so new as to be disposable.

Before my mom would teach me how to drive s she insisted that I at least be able to change a tire, the oil, and the spark plugs. I haven't done any of those things in years, but at least I have an idea of where to start if I had to.
