Thank you @PMYB2! Very nice to integrate picinfinity.
Want to give some love to @picman
Dude, I have serious respect for what you've done with picinfinity. It is such a great idea and implemented very nicely. As much as I love poal, I really think your idea has the potential to be one of the biggest advancements in free speech that we may see for some time.
Have you considered something similar but with videos? I know that is exponentially more bandwidth, but that would be another great leap forward. We've all seen sites like hooktube get neutered.
Thanks again man and shoutout to @AOU for his work on your site too.
Thanks for the love, I appreciate it.
I don't know how long-term picinfinity will be. I'm going to do as much as I possibly can, but scaling up might run into issues (depends mostly on how hosts take it if/when picinfinity gets larger). We shall see; always new ideas.
As for video, yes. I thought about it very early on. I even thought about offering small size file sharing by encoding the bytes of files into images and then hosting them on picinfinity. But that would be insane as far as bandwidth. There are video hosts out there that are free, but most require accounts or will require them soon. It's currently more expensive so there aren't as many free no-account hosts out there.
Edit: furthermore, things like bitchute and other options are far superior to whatever we could offer using video, unless it was some type of smaller scale or some other niche thing that made it useful and cost-effective.
Very welcome!
Hey I forgot the name, but did you see the deal where you can encode short messages into URLs? The URLs themselves are very short, like bit.ly url short. But when you click the link you get a decent block of text. No accounts or anything.
I worked a project back when and messed around with UUencode / decode. Basically convert binary to text and vice versa. I wonder if that may be a way around some of the issues. A binary encoded to text doesn't violate anything. Can't even use it unless decoded. But is has issues as well. If you don't already know (u prob do) that is how usenet used to work, not sure if still does. Binaries we uuencoded. That's why needed a newsreader to download binary groups so it could uudecode them.
Just popped in my mind so thought I would throw it out there.
@PMYB2 - related to hiding.
Seriously, if it was an integrated platform for images and videos, hell add in other media types as well, IMO would be a game changer. Especially once the pirates get a hold of it (videos). DMCA guys would likely come after you, so I would also incorporate some sort of URL masking. Not sure how that would work.
With videos, I would say it has the potential to be on the level of torrents. That big. So if you are going to do it, think big. Think hosting from places where you can't get shutdown. With redundancies and mirrors (ala piratebay). Also do not forget file hosters as they are the real gray area of the net IMO right now. I'm talking rapidgator, filefactory etc. Debrid has a clever way to do it caching TONS of videos and then serving them (streaming) up to paying customers using the filehosters premium links.
But yeah, example someone uploads music video to youtube. Someone posts link on 8infinity (new name) and it then goes through uploading to vimeo, invidio, bitchute and a few random file hosters. Would be very tough to DMCA that. Hard part is that since 8finity technically uploads and breaks DMCA, could get into trouble. Something to consider.
If you guys do work on it, please tag me in discussions, I'm willing to contribute what I can.
Cheers guys!
I’ll think on it we would need a really creative way to hide in order for it to work.
Integration was definitely a cool idea
