Well I can say for certain there are plenty of people who need things this time of year, many many of them. So why not give to them? Also who is to say you even know what you need? Why is a time of year where the social norm is giving a bad thing?

Giving is never a bad thing. But it should come from heart, not from the calendar. And many christmas gifts are given due to social norms and then thrown away, a complete waste.

Well then should we not encourage more giving through the year not discourage it just because it’s a social norm for the time?

We should encourage giving in general, but not tie it to dates or events.
