Well mostly I just came here to plug my sub on the global sticky, but if you're seriously going to entertain the idea then here's my case for it:
- While most default subs on most link aggregator sites are topic-based, some of the best (in terms of interesting content) and most popular are format-based (TIL, AskPoal for example) because they encourage interaction among the users. One more would be one more the merrier.
- Our community's positvity and general good will for each other sets us apart from Voat (among other things), and we should encourage that culture so that it sticks even as sourpuss goats continue to migrate here
- It allows us to build ourselves and others up by reminding each other how much there is to be grateful for
- For being just 18 days old it's a fairly active sub that attracts a lot of unique posters. Just glance at the first page of posts on /s/AppreciateSomething and you'll see something like a dozen unique posters. As a default sub this trend would probably increase and it would be to all of our benefit and the benefit of the site.
edit: and also as you pointed out, defaults make it easier for lurkers to browse the site. And the lurkers could probably use some of that sweet habit of gratitude in their lives
