So we've seen this talked about this a few times since downvotes on posts became public for users over level 6. The goal of making them public for posts was to prevent brigading and it has been pretty effective. A few users didn't like it and left. I think some of those people came back under new names. So the question is, should we do the same for comments, IE add a comment details button something similar that allows users over level 6 to see who downvoted their comments. We are looking forward to what the community thinks.

More transparency is never a bad thing.

Refer to "So what can be done?", #2.

The subversive crowd at Voat is always quick to reject this idea. I wonder why.

I find myself visiting Voat less and less. I'm not sure when I posted content last but it's probably been a few days.

i just go there from time to time if poal slow down or visit friends

[–] 0 pt

Nothing to see there anymore. It's the same type of posts day in and out. So boring.

[–] 3 pts

I could not possibly think of any reason a group would not want this, its just a complete mystery to me /s

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

virge was a "builder" when i would say that it weaponized, i would just get downvoted on there. have been saying it for years.... virge was protected... mini AOC voice "isnt that something"

[–] 1 pt

Oh, I don't know, retaliatory downvoting maybe? In the name of preventing brigading you're encouraging it.

[–] 9 pts

Voted yes. I think it would be fine to just leave well enough alone but if a lot of people are asking for it then I really don't see how it's diffrent than making downvotes visible on posts.

[–] [deleted] 8 pts

uncalled for downvoats would help us make a list of shils and niggerfaggots trying to doxx basic users. seeing a list of whitefolk downvoating would help out niggerfaggotshils.

in a perfect world it would be fine not to show whos up-voting and down-voting. but knowing whos voting what right now would help notice redflags so it takes longer for us to end up like voat.

i vote yes on showing whos voting what

We've (@PMYB2 and I) discussed about it several times and since it's already enabled for posts (and has been a successful experience), there's no reason why comments shouldn't have the same feature.

Level 6+ can access the [voting details] option (available under the post's title) and see who downvoted a post

I am stopping myself from giving you a downvoted, just to be sarcastic.

[–] 2 pts

No chicken soup for you then.

[–] [deleted] 6 pts

i think so, i'm down with transparency.

not really relevant, well maybe somewhat. One thing i would always say on the other site is that have a toggle (yes or no) to show your comment history. but like ya said you have ways to curb that

[–] 6 pts

Yes

Could help identify abuse. (Brigading, etc.)

[–] 4 pts

Also encourages brigading. Gives people a target because they can see exactly who disagreed with them..

[–] 3 pts

How could it be different from "public downvotes" for posts that almost instantly stopped brigading when we enabled that feature last year?

[–] 3 pts

They are not different.

[–] 1 pt

Why even have votes at all? Set a visibility timer and fee fees can be spared!

I don't necessarily don't think it would, i mean with posts it's been non issue from my experience.

I mean I dont know how far back ya go or if you touched voat at all. but back it was whoa and then voat, this what was downvoating was meant to be used as.

look at what that shit show is now. coincidentally happened right when that biting tongue puttitout took over

now its mah down voat free speech

[–] [deleted] 5 pts

I votes yes. I think the downvote button is something people abuse too often for whatever purposes they have. And the transparency helps minimize that abuse.

[–] 4 pts

Yes like they do on VOAT. Trawling all your old posts and comments to downvote them in a huff.

[–] 5 pts

I'm all for total transparency and to be perfectly honest, I think the best solution is to remove the downvote button site wide. Every comment and submission is worth one vote for the person who took the time to submit it. As much as I hate the whole up/down vote system, people can agree or upvote from there.

Spam should not be voted on. If the mods of the sub allow it and if POAL allows it, so be it. However, if it isn't allowed, it should be removed. Voting shouldn't have any play involved.

[–] 1 pt

Voting shouldn't have any play involved.

This is the answer. Remove the downvote button all together. Spam shouldn’t be handled by a downvote arrow.

[–] 5 pts

Im sure if I downvote something they deserve it.Or not, heh. But try to just upvote or ignore. I dont care who knows. I wont ever even check that shit. I voted yes.

[–] 4 pts

Has there been downvote abuse with the influx of new users?

[–] 4 pts

Yes there has been. Some don't seem to want to stop and I'd rather see the community have the tools to deal with it themselves.

[–] 5 pts

Couldn't agree more. One of the reasons I made an account here was because the drama on VOAT overshadowed discussion. The clique of addicts responsible all behaved like niggers, every one of them. When they were finally "managed" belatedly, they came here. I left for about 3 months because I knew they'd pull the same shit here and eventually be banned. Which is exactly what happened so I came back. It's highly amusing watching the ones that are still here under new names have to curb their anti-social tendencies. Haha!

[–] 2 pts

Sbbh still runs voat, there is zero management over there. They are now trickling their way into poal trying to do the same thing they did to voat.

[–] 0 pt

I'd rather they vote my way instead

FTFY

[–] 2 pts

Someone is afraid. I can smell it.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

really... my account was created a year ago, but only been active the past few months. I was attacked.... it was fucking stomped-reversed quickly

[–] 3 pts

Some tried and failed.

[–] 3 pts

Then it would be good for the community to be able to see it. I'll vote for the change.

[–] 3 pts

Good idea, wish Voat had done it years ago.

[–] 3 pts

I don't believe it will encourage brigading because then it would be clear who is doing the brigading and they'd look like fags in front of everyone. I voted yes.
