A lot of vegans understand that humans are omnivores, but they're taking a moral position, that we shouldn't eat meat because meat is murder and we should stop murdering animals. Some of them are going so far as to demand we take control over nature and prevent predation in the wild, feeding carnivores with engineered foods rather than let them hunt.
