I was on a ship in the Bering Sea during a typhoon in the early '80's. January. 75 knot winds, 55 ft seas, -75f windchill.
I stepped out onto the bridgewing , 45 ft above sea level, for just a moment to experience the storm. From the corner of my eye I spotted something in the water. Honestly for a second it scared the hell out of me. WTF could be out in this weather?
It was a walrus swimming for its life. It was porpoising out of the water on the face of a wave. Who knew they could swim that hard? I wonder if he made it?
