Tangentially related - back in September I replaced the old 6' stockade fence around my back yard with a 4' picket fence. Why, you ask? Because deer would hop into the yard anyway but sometimes wouldn't get out in time when my dogs chased after them and I didn't want my dogs to get kicked to death by a panicked buck.
The 4' fence is tall enough to keep the dogs in and low enough for the deer to hop over easily. (It's also tall enough to prevent neighborhood children from falling into the pool.)

That dear is lucky. My cousins back east would have considered that an easy dinner
