Getting married without a license can have very sad and EXPENSIVE repercussions if one of you dies though, so even though you shouldn't HAVE to, it's worth talking to a lawyer before taking that route if you have any assets to speak of.

Just make some shared asset agreement, don't get legally married, have 10 kids and get all the possible welfare gibs you can.
