One of the best maps I've played in a FPS, was a custom map on galactic conquest (BF1942 mod)
It was a corridor, with corners and crates behind which you can dodge, kind of like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qV--Wod_10 very intense, just a fucking corridor and each teams spawn at the ends of it, with rifles and guns and no nades

Also, a friend of mine made a dick shaped map for desert combat (BF1942 mod) with ground vehicles only; and each team started within one of of the balls of the dick, and there was an outpost to take at the top of the dick
I didn't get the chance to play it but everybody seemed to agree that it was an awesome configuration for ground battle
