They went for the db-23 so people wouldn't mistake it with the serial port (db-25).

Yeah I know. Still they could have done creative wiring so it wouldn't blow the video/serial/scsi out. They did the same thing with the C-64 with the Dins, horseshoe and circle etc etc..
