I visited Galveston once. It wasn't great. Probably would have been better if the weather was better, but I doubt it.

I was on a business trip visiting Cyrix in Richardson TX for a couple weeks. That Saturday between weeks I drove my rental car to Galveston, then down the coast to Corpus Christi, turned back through San Antonio, saw Austin at night, then Waco back through DFW to Richardson where I started that morning. IIRC, it took me about 20 hours with stops. I hadn't seen much of TX before that.
Galveston was overcast the one time I was there too.
