In 6th grade, being the tallest in the class at the time, I was selected to be the kid that had to put up the flag up in the morning and take it down at night, properly fold it and store it. I did it alone, had to stand on my toes with my arms straight up so the flag wouldn't touch the ground as I folded it outside. I respected the flag but I hated that task, especially in the winter. In retrospect, I was reliable, did a great job and that's probably why no one else was ever assigned to it. I recall asking my teacher to find someone else but that never happened. I had my first civics class the following year.

You know schools don't teach civics with pride like they used to. That would be impossible in todays woke schools.
