Anyone here have experience with these? Allstar, DStar, etc...

My radioactive dad isn't too much into them because, as he says "who wants to ask how traffic is in L.A. while sitting in your local traffic?" Makes sense, though I think its more of the rag-chew and not local info.

I bought a Pi to try my hand at installing one of the Allstar (I think) images and then connecting it to either a 220 band or my TS2000 all band and see what I can do..

DMR is the most used one. I bought a kenwood handheld vhf/uhf and managed to key up on the DStar repeater in my area a few times but cant hit it from my house. Id go for DMR if its something your looking to get into.
