Summary:

  • You need a licence (nothing to do with the radio)
  • It is cheap ..... so .... why on earth should I hate it ? because I am not giving money to some fat ass cat ?

there may be some point with quality, but, if it passes certification (if not, complain you your certification authority)... it IS at the required quality level, from the radio interface point of view.

So, yes, clickbait article I cannot comment since I am not on Jewtube

He's speaking to why many dislike them. It really boils down to snobbery. In that regard I don't consider it click bait as many actually do argue they are bad. When clearly they are not.

Technically you need a license. Practically you don't so long as you pay attention to the open frequencies allowed and don't abuse it. Others listening don't know if it's a radio restricted only to those frequencies or a general purpose ham.

This is why many people use these for the frequencies legally allowed with dedicated radios locked to those frequencies. Really it's a matter of semantics. If you've done something where someone cares you're already doing some else wrong. And come SHTF, licensing doesn't matter and now you have a pre-programmed ham radio.
