Question: Can a mobile antenna be mounted on a fiberglass hood or trunk lid and still operate well?

TYT Quad-Band Mobile Antenna paired with TYT th9800 Quad-Band Mobile Radio. I've heard the antennas only really work, or at least work best, when the hood or lid is metal for the ground plane.

You know - the antenna lip mount did come with a small rectangular piece of metal that I though was maybe to protect the underside from the mount screws, but maybe it has dual purpose.

Hmm, thanks! I'll probably test it with and without a ground plane. I'll follow up when I've got more.

Oh, just hang 4 wires off it at about 45 degrees. That should do it.
