I see were Watts is coming from but there is a difference between a toxic family and a gang of abusers that do it because they think it's fun. I do not think am more "spiritually awakened" or achieved some life lesson other than people are pieces of shit. I didn't need to be abused as child to learn that. No soul floating around in the all knowing cosmos would decide to deal with what I had to deal with.

I was thinking about this the other day. If we as souls get to decide what body we incarnate, and get to know the kind of people the parents are, we must be REALLY testing ourselves to see if we can either learn to be a good person or remain a good person when we are being influenced heavily by family members who are toxic. Playing the game of life on hard mode. If we are infinite and do this many times, I guess the full version of ourselves (that remembers all experience that we have ever had) must be "bored" or just a completionist trying to go through every possible feeling, including the shitty ones.
