Such things are generally officiated by a$$holes with nothing better to do with their lives than to ruin other people's days. And you were dumb enough to pay them for the privilege! If you like that kind of thing, okay ... but if ya want the freedom to do what you wish on your property, the local government probably already has it's own set on BS laws, why buy into more.

I've always looked for places without such crap. Mostly because I had friends at work who would always be bitching about getting fined for the most stupid things. Stuff like leaving their garage door open, when they were working in it ... against the rules - LOL - gotta keep it closed.

I suppose some folks like everything to be perfect in their neighborhood. Me, if you don't bother me, I could care what you do over at your place. Yeah, it may effect property values, as some contend, but I prefer as much freedom in my life as possible. If someone goes too far, the city or the township or whatever will handle it.

Our place isn't that bad. I've never heard of anyone getting fined for anything (not to say it isn't possible). This light thing did tick me off though. It's a basic black fixture. I thought it was looking dingy a year or 2 ago and took it down and sprayed it. My light looked good, then bam you have to install this new fixture.

LOL - some are better than others. Many though have old geezers like me on the HOA board with nothing better to do in life than drive around looking for the dumbest things so they can pitch a fit.
