Always pan fried when it comes to fish. Garlic butter chives salt pepper garlic and lemon. Lemon really makes it pop.

Honestly I've never had pike.

No loss there. Hell it might just break your line if you got a bite anyways and cleaning cleaning cleaning a fish and shit bite into a bone is a shit fish. I love me some horn-pout when the skin gets all crisp and shit. For others why don't know horn-pout is freshwater catfish, some great tasting fish. We'd catch 10x as many perch and toss them all back no matter the size.
